Paris - O'oui

I decided to skip today's Friday theme and instead I will take you a long to Paris. I hope you don't mind. I have taken so many pictures and I have so much I would like to share with you that I will divide this into several parts.

Paris in spring - what could be more romantic? There is certainly something about this city that is magical. There is something in the air that makes you fall in love a little bit with everything around you. I am so happy I got the chance to return to this city. I was here many years ago with my parents when I was 18. The city felt new to me. I was eager to take in as much as possible in the two days that I had. I feel I managed to make the most of the time I had.

We stayed at a hotel located just a few blocks away from the famous Notre Dame. We stayed in the area known as St-Germain. A lovely area in the very heart of Paris. Paris is one of those cities that draws tourists from all over the world all year round. Where ever you go within the center of the city you are never alone spotted holding on to a map with you camera around you shoulders.
The Notre Dame is located right by the Seine river. It is as much a symbol of Paris as the Eifel tower or the Louvre. This is where Napoleon once was crowned and marrige vows between kings and queens have taken place. The building of Notre Dame begun 1163 and was completed in 1345. Paris is just filled with really old fine culture and heritage. A crown jewel of European history.

As we arrived Monday evening we strolled down to the Seine and took some pictures before we had dinner.

Something else that you can't miss if you come to Paris are the bridges with all the padlocks. People from all over the world come to the capital of romance to seal their love and relationship with a padlock. There are several bridges covered with padlocks just like this one. I don't know when it started or how long it has been going on but it is a fun thing.

The majestic beauty of the Notre Dame in daylight. It is a very beautiful church. It was one of the first Gothic cathedrals of Europe. Everyone is familiar with Quasimodo the hunch back created by Victor Hugo in his novel about Notre Dame.

You can enter the church for free and it is sure worth a visit. It is as beautiful and impressive inside as outside. It feels like you have stepped right into history as you enter. People are walking around, others are praying, mass may be going on in another part. Silence is important and no pictures with flash are allowed. Candles are burning by the different saints.

The details and all the finely sculptured decorations are just amazing!

The Seine river is wonderful to walk along. It is a great way of not getting lost either. As long as I knew the direction of the river I knew I would always get back to the hotel. One of the best was to see and enjoy Paris is to either walk along the river or to take one of the boats on and along the river. There are boats you can hop on and off between the major landmarks of the city and there are boats for both sightseeing with information as well as dinner cruises.

I decided to walk along the river on my first day. I walked all the way from Notre Dame to the Eifel tower. There is so much to see and enjoy a long the way. I did a lot of walking during these two days. Each day I walked from about 9 am to 5 pm making a few stops but still being on my feet most of the time. Poor C had to work to do so he was not able to enjoy Paris at all with me. I was on my own when it came to exploring and enjoying the city. Paris has so much to offer it is not difficult to being on your own here.

Spring seems to be delayed everywhere and also here in Paris. But here and there were some signs of spring like these beautiful daffodils in the park located by the Eifel tower. The temperature was around 10 Celcius with a mix of sun, clouds and a few showers. It was totally ok.

I wish I knew some French beyond the most basic words. Well, learning some French will have to be on my wish list/do do list after I have gotten the German under control. Actually, right now my head is a mess when it comes to languages. There were moments when I found myself trying to say things in German while being here in Paris. Totally crazy.

We took the speed train to Paris from Basel and that was something that very easy and smooth. It made two stops only a long the way in Mulhouse and in Dijon. The train was very modern and very comfortable. It took us 3 hours to reach Paris from Basel. It is amazing when it comes to the speed the train can reach, over 300 km per hour! You look out the window and you don't seem to go at all that fast. It is all so comfortable riding along this way. It is also a great way to see more of the country side.

I end with another nice view of the grand Notre Dame. I wish you all a great weekend. For now it will actually just be nice staying at home doing nothing special. I feel very lucky and fortunate to be able to travel and see all the places and things I have during these past weeks. I love it but some quiet moments are also necessary.

Now I am off to German class. I have missed two classes so I have some catching up to do. Time to get back to ordinary life with classes and work outs at the gym.

Ah Paris... underbart.

Njuta och bara suga in atmosfären.

New York-borna avgudar Paris.

Kram!

Kramar!
